Flexenclosure, a specialist developer of intelligent power management systems and pre-fabricated data centres for the ICT industry, has deployed an e-centre – an energy efficient and pre-fabricated data centre – in response to an order from Vodacom Mozambique.
The 126 square metre rooftop deployment in central Maputo consists of three 42 square metre e-entre units and was successfully finalised just days ago. It houses mission critical data and telecom equipment for Vodacom Mozambique.
E-centre is a pre-fabricated, pre-equipped, modular data centre solution that is optimised for energy efficiency and low TCO. The e-centre is specifically designed to be fast to deploy and fully future proof.
“Speed and modularity was essential for this deployment, since the data centre is located on the roof of an existing building. And speed, flexibility, reliability and scalability is precisely what we offer with e-centre,” says David King, CEO, Flexenclosure.
“With many years of experience from working in Africa and adding predictability to projects, we are best placed to deliver the turn-key solutions that customers ask for.”
Since 2001 when the first e-centre was installed in Nigeria, Flexenclosure has installed e-centres in West, Central and North Africa, and now also in southern Africa. To date, the majority of Flexenclosure’s installations of e-centre have been in Africa, providing extensive experience and knowledge of data centre deployments in the region. In total, almost 6 000 square metres of e-centre area has been deployed in Africa.
“We needed to put this facility in place quickly, efficiently, on time and to a very high quality and Flexenclosure allowed us to achieve that,” says Jerry Mobbs, MD, Vodacom Mozambique.
“They de-risked our project significantly because the detailed technical work was all done in a clean environment in Sweden and the amount of civils work needed on site was minimised. By putting the Flexenclosure facility in place, if we do have an outage our customers won’t notice it as it gives us a level of backup that we did not have before.”
Mozambique’s annual growth rate is approximately 8%. The mobile communication penetration rate is still well below the African average at approximately 39%.
