Allied Technologies Limited (Altech) has installed the Huawei TP3106 telepresence solution at its head office campus in Woodmead, Johannesburg as part of its commitment to greater efficiencies, reduced costs and environmental sustainability.
Telepresence is the next generation of video conferencing that provides an interactive audio-visual communications experience between distant locations, where the user enjoys a much richer “real life” visual experience, high-definition sound, simple set up and reliable connectivity.

The Huawei telepresence solution creates a live, face-to-face meeting experience over the network with high-quality video and audio. The deployment facilitates more meetings between Altech employees while reducing travel, accelerating decision cycles and supporting more efficient internal communications.

Drawing on its own experiences in this area, and as a Huawei value-added partner, Altech is able to implement and support similar needs for its customers.

“We are changing how we interact with employees across our operations because of the video quality and simplicity of the Huawei telepresence meeting solutions. It is much easier for employees to meet when time and distance are no longer barriers,” says Tim Ellis, Altron TMT executive Business Development.

Since the initial implementation of the solution, Altech has seen a 20% reduction in travel and accommodation costs. Furthermore, time spent out of the office in order to travel to regional offices by key executives has reduced dramatically.

The company expects the cost and productivity savings to increase substantially as the telepresence initiative is rolled out across the group in the next six to 12 months.

“Now more than ever, companies must shrink decision cycles and time to market, seize new business opportunities, and lower operational costs — all while increasing productivity. Far from being a nice-to-have solution, telepresence has become a must-have product,” Ellis concludes.
