By Mark Davison at Discover 2013, Barcelona – Traditionally the stage for major enterprise announcements, HP’s PPS division got in on the act today when it launched a number of new products, including its thinnest
ever EliteBook, the first fan-less thin client with quad-core processors, and a new range of MFPs.
Enrique Lores, senior vice-president and GM, Commercial PCs at HP, says that today’s employees demand technology that fits their personal style, while still allowing them to stay productive wherever the job takes
them. Meanwhile, he adds, IT managers must support this new style of IT with a common set of devices and interfaces, all while exceeding expectations for the security and reliability that business demands.
“Today’s business lifestyles continue to evolve at an incredible rate, resulting in a new style of IT that requires stylish, easy-to-use devices coupled with expanding device security and manageability that can be used in
a range of settings,” says Lores.
“HP addresses this new reality with a portfolio of high-impact business PCs and services that offer the ultimate in security and manageability, while still providing the style, lightness and ease of use needed for all types of working environments.”
The new Elite products launched include:
The HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 notebook which is 16,1% thinner and 7,3% lighter than the previous generation. Passing a dozen military-grade tests for reliability and durability, the company says it is one of the
sturdiest, thinnest and lightest ultrabooks on the market.
The HP ElitDesk 800 G1 Business Desktop Mini, one of the industry’s smallest business desktop PCs, is fully integrated with the latest in power efficiency, security and manageability solutions. It’s introduced
alongside the HP ProDesk 600 G1 Business Desktop Mini, which is designed to keep users productive and IT operating costs down.
The HP EliteDisplay S230tm is HP’s first Windows 8-certified touch monitor for business, featuring a 23-inch diagonal multi-touch monitor with antiglare glass for viewing in high ambient light conditions.
The company’s latest thin client – the HP t620 – is its most flexible to date and the first to offer quad-core processors in a fan-less design for improved performance and productivity.
Jeff Groudan, marketing director for thin clients, says many businesses take advantage of the efficiency afforded by a global work day by facilitating project collaboration between offices. “With the addition of HP
Remote Graphics Software and flexible networking options on the HP t620, companies now can take advantage of the manageability and security benefits of desktop virtualisation, plus the increased productivity and
convenience for teams collaborating on graphically rich applications.
“User experience, flexibility and security are not mutually exclusive thanks to advances in thin client technology and HP innovation,” Groudan adds. “The fact that the HP thin client family is amazingly successful
around the world underscores the widespread need for powerful technology with enterprise-level security, and how solutions like the HP t620 can successfully address it.”
With a new fan-less design and preconfigured high-performance processors and software, the HP t620 provides businesses with a powerful and seamless desktop experience, enhanced security features for virtual
desktops, Desktop as a Service, unified communications, and other demanding client virtualisation and cloud computing use cases.
.The final announcement from PPS is the HP S900 Series MFPs, devices it says will help reduce costs for organisations with high-volume print, copy and scan needs.
HP says this suite of devices offers faster printing and scanning speeds to help increase customers’ office productivity. And key HP solutions integrated within the HP S900 Series – including integrated fleet
management, security and document workflow – help simplify IT management.
Pradeep Jotwani, senior vice-president, HP LaserJet and Enterprise Solutions, says customers are increasingly interested in combining MPS (managed print services) and print-room contracts, with 15% of enterprises
already doing so and 22% investigating or planning to investigate using a single provider for their print room and office environments.
“Our enterprise and mid-market customers continually look to HP and its partners to securely and efficiently manage their printing and document management processes,” says Jotwani. “The new HP S900 Series
MFPs coupled with HP’s print solutions increase the choice and flexibility offered through our HP Managed Print Services engagements. In turn, customers are able to unify their print environments with one vendor to
reduce costs, improve workflow and increase productivity.”
The HP S900 Series, he says, will be delivered exclusively as part of HP Managed Print Services (MPS) and HP Partner MPS agreements, providing customers guidance to optimise, manage and improve their printing
assets.
