The Deputy Minister of Communications, Stella Ndabeni Abrahams will be handing over three Cyber Labs at the Jentile Senior Secondary School, St Patrick’s and Sandi High Schools on 23 and 24 January 2014, in Sakhisizwe and Libode, Eastern Cape.
This initiative is a Public Private Partnership collaboration between the Department of Communications, Eastern Cape Department of Education, Universal Services and Access Agency of South Africa (USAASA) and Huawei under the theme “back to school, encouraging ICT uptake for learners”.
The Department has connected, through its schools connectivity programme, over 900 schools across the country.
Jentile Senior Secondary School comprises of 22 computers, two-year Iinternet connectivity, 22 desks and chairs, air conditioner, printer and overhead projector including the screen. The above equipment is proudly donated by USAASA.
St Patrick’s and Sandi High Schools will also receive 30 tablets each donated by Huawei and IT Master, who provide Internet connectivity.
This initiative derives form of the National and Local Governments’ commitment to prioritise broadband penetration and ensure that underserviced areas access information communications technologies (ICT).
The Eastern Cape Department of Education is committed to supporting and working together with private and public companies; who are working hard in ensuring that such initiatives are executed and, with the local government structures such at this Department are a success.
