Centralised computing solves the problem of delivering cloud-based software safely, quickly and at low cost, says Vox Telecom’s Tapiwa Sawaya – and he predicts a surge in its popularity among corporates during the next 18 months.

“Cloudware enables companies to deliver any Windows application to any tablet, smartphone or desktop, no matter what operating system it’s using,” explains Sawaya. “Everything is hosted and managed in the data centre – the only thing sent to the end user device is a set of instructions for what to display on the screen. There’s no need to install Windows on every machine – everything is delivered across the network.”

This is not only more secure, he says, but also faster and much less expensive.

“Some of our early customers have been multi-site organisations using database-driven applications. Their users at remote sites have battled with slow connections, and the whole organisation has slowed down as a result – which is a big problem when the application is your core financial system, for example. Vox Telecom’s Cloudware solution has made a huge difference to their businesses.”

From a security perspective, he adds, “Cloudware means no information ever leaves the data centre, so it can’t be intercepted or copied. And because the corporate environment is isolated from users, they can’t infect it with any viruses or malware. “

Application delivery via Cloudware also reduces hardware and IT support costs, he adds.

“If your employees can access all business applications they need using a tablet, with complete security, there’s no need to buy an expensive laptop for them to take on the road. The less happens on the user’s device, the better. And there are no worries about updating applications or operating systems on hundreds of different machines – you just need to manage one central application.”
