Ravi Bhat has resigned as regional director for VMware, after just seven months on the job.
It is not clear what Bhat’s reasons are for leaving, nor where he will be going.
A statement from VMware reads: “We confirm that after seven months service with the company, Ravi Bhat, regional director for sub-Saharan Africa has left VMware to pursue a personal matter.
“While we are actively recruiting for a suitable replacement, Wayne Biehn, regional manager: Africa for the WECA countries will ensure interim leadership for the region.
“We thank Ravi for his contribution to the business and wish him well for the future.”
Bhat joined VMware in October last years, some months after the departure of Chris Norton. He was previously a director of the IBM Software Group, and had spent almost 18 years with both Lotus and IBM.
VMware has grown rapidly from a server virtualisation company to one of the leaders in the new software-defined data centre space that seeks to virtualise the full range of IT infrastructure.
VMware is expanding its presence in Africa, adding an office in Kenya to its presence in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Nigeria.
The company is also actively expanding its local presence with new resources and skills to help it address the financial, telecommunications and public sector vertical markets.
In fact, the local operation plans to have grown 2,5-fold by 2017, while maintaining a 100% partner-led, -focused and -fulfilment model.
