Huawei has today launched its Agile Network Solution in South Africa. The Agile Network Solution is a next-generation enterprise solution enabling a swift and flexible network for services.
The solution encompasses four sub-solutions: Agile Campus; Cloud Fabric; Agile WAN; and Agile Branch.

It is ideal for services such as mobile applications, cloud computing, social media, big data and the Internet of Things (IoT). It is currently being trialled in controlled environments, such as universities and database companies, and has been offered to local telcos.

Having agile networks means that the network itself can identify problems; identify security issues; and reroute information accordingly.

Ajay Gupta, director of product marketing at Huawei, says that 90% of the world’s data has been generated in the last two years, and by 2020 there will be an estimated 50-billion devices in the world.

In light of this, companies need network agility and flexibility in order to stay on top of the masses of data they accumulate.

Traditional networks and its administrators cannot detect network faults before receiving user complaints.

The advantages of agile networks include:

* A focus on how to provide excellent user experiences and service innovations, without paying much attention to technologies, devices, and network connectivity.
* A focus on the entire network, providing integrated services and experiences.
* Awareness of user experience and service quality in realtime. When the user experience is poor, the network can automatically detect it and accurately locate faults.
* Administrators can focus on user experiences and service innovations, while the network takes over all manual labour.
* Agile networks are software-defined and can evolve four times faster than the traditional hardware-defined networks, making it easier to quickly introduce new services.

Huawei recently helped Dortmund Stadium upgrade its communications systems with the Agile Network Solution. The stadium seats 80 000, and the network enables fast access to various services even when the arena is at capacity.

Huawei’s Agile Network Solution is expected to be commercially available in South Africa from the first quarter of 2015.
