Kathy Gibson reports from VMworld 2014 in Barcelona – One of the biggest challenges that IT is still facing today is the belief that a new set of infrastructure is needed for the new generation of apps.
“We are out to disprove that we need a new silo for the new generations,” says VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger.
VMware has announced the new VMware Integrated OpenStack, available today in beta, that integrates OpenStack with VMware.
The company also announced a partnership with CSC.
“Together, these announcements allow us to bring together leading VMware tools and technologies, delivering traditional and emerging OpenStack interfaces,” says Gelsinger.
“Simply put, it offers choice, without disruption.”
The second misconception is that users have to choose between virtual machines (VMs) and containers.
“But we see these two concepts are both needed and both are compatible,” Gelsinger says. “Together they offer an efficient and secure model for application deployments.”
Working with Docker, Google and Pivotal , VMware is announcing a common platform for all apps.
Project Fargo adds Open Container SPIs to the VMware infrastructure, joining Cloud Foundry APIs, OpenStack APIs and VMware APIs.
