eBucks Rewards members exceeded the rewards programme’s already bullish expectations for spending during the 2014 festive season, with more than half of this spend taking place online.

At the end of last year, Jolandé Duvenage, CEO of eBucks Rewards predicted the anticipated spend would reach around R280-million in festive transactions across the spend channels available.

But eBucks added to the festive cheer, as members spent around R24-million more than expected, taking the total spend for the season to R304-million. This total refers to members spending online in the eBucks Shop; via the FNB mobile app and mobisite; as well as online and in store with eBucks Rewards retail and grocery partners.

Several factors attributed to these results: members were rewarded for good banking behaviour during the year, as well as making sure they shop at the eBucks online and retail partners, to earn rewards. The fact that eBucks can’t expire, made it possible for members to save up their rewards, which allowed them to really splurge during a time when get-togethers with loved ones and presents are more prevalent.

The top items bought in the eBucks Shop during the Festive season were a mix of gadgets, homeware and appliances which included:
* DStv Explora HD;
* Samsung Bluetooth keyboard;
* ghd V coral professional styler;
* Leapfrog LeapPad Ultra XDi Learning Tablet; and
* Volpes 100% cotton percale bedding.

eBucks Rewards members took advantage of the fact that all items in the eBucks Shop were discounted up to 40% over the festive season.

“Once again FNB and eBucks are delighted to have contributed to making our members’ Festive seasons more memorable,” says Duvenage. “Whether it was through allowing them to spoil their loved ones with gifts, putting a few extra treats into the shopping trolley, or buying flights to visit loved ones and airtime to call friends and family. We’ve worked hard to ensure that eBucks Rewards makes a meaningful difference to all our members’ lives.”
