South Africa’s DNS (Domain Name System) community is set to benefit from technical skills training, hosted by the ZA Central Registry (ZACR) during February 2015.
Presented by world authorities on the Domain Name System hierarchical naming protocol for computers, Sweden’s Johan Ihrén of Netnod and SA’s Mark Elkins of Domain Name Services, participants from other African countries including Egypt and Nigeria will also attend.
The Domain Name System helps people navigate the Internet by associating numerical information that enables the web to function with easily recalled domain names.
Since its inception in 1996, ZACR built Africa’s first central registry from scratch by investing in the skills of the South African and wider African Domain Name System community.
Almost 20 years later, ZACR continues to host biannual Domain Name System Introduction and Advanced training courses. ZACR operates co.za, web.za, org.za, net.za and the recently-launched cTLDs (city Top Level Domains) of .capetown (dotCapeTown), .joburg (dotJoburg) and .durban (dotDurban).
According to Lucky Masilela, CEO of the ZA Central Registry (ZACR): “ZACR’s bid to administer the .africa (‘dotAfrica’) domain, and particularly its endorsement by the African Union Commission (AUC), has helped ZACR deepen its engagement with the African Internet community. This current round of Domain Name System training that will host participants from several African countries helps ZACR transform further into a pan-African entity.”
Participation at the ZACR introductory Domain Name System training from 16 to 18 February in Midrand and at the advanced sessions from 23 to 26 February in Cape Town is free, although a R500 refundable deposit is required.
