IT is still one of the industries that is booming for employees and job seekers. This is one of the findings from CareerJunction’s 2014 annual job review, which found that IT saw an increase of 37% in job openings during 2014.
IT came in behind the motor industry, which had a 50% increase in job opportunities, and education with 45%.
The administration field is also attractive, with a 28% increase in job openings during the year.
IT also saw salaries increasing by 45%.
According to the survey, the most sought-after IT professionals were software developers, followed by systems and network administrators, business and system analysts, and database administrators.
Mobile job search also appears to be picking up momentum as more job seekers are using this platform to apply for jobs “on the go”. CareerJunction’s mobile site saw an increase in applications of over 400% in the last year alone.
While many industries saw a rise in demand for workers from 2013 to 2014, some experienced a drop. Petrochemical jobs declined by 22% and marketing saw a 6% decrease.
I strongly disagree. Companies are demanding more and more qualification updates but still pay the same meager salaries. I once saw an add for a position that listed R300,000-00 worth of qualifications needed and the post only payed R11,000-00 cost to company. The sector is so saturated there aren’t enough jobs to go around. Why do you think the unemployment rate is so high. Almost everybody is an IT qualified person, a dime a dozen. Whomever wrote this article has no idea what is really happening in SA.
In some cases i agree and in some of them i dont, yes almost 4 out of 10 people has an IT certificate or even diploma/degree but now comes the real question you have to ask yourself is that only 10% of those in IT can do the actual work, I know i went to collage with over 25 IT graduates where i only knew of around 3 that actually knew there job. Now because of that companies ask a lot of Qualifications but offer little pay ( and that is wrong ) because those who knows there work end up earning between R6.000 to R13.000 if you are lucky, but those who dont know there work will earn the same and you end up doing there job, but with the same pay, that’s why i am looking into consulting because IT is well known out there but very few knows there work, pay i little and you who knows what you are doing end up not getting the job.
