Telkom and Business Connexion (BCX) have withdrawn their application to the Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA) for licences to be transferred from BCX to Telkom.

In a joint statement, the two organisations state that, having reviewed the Electronic Communication Act, with particular focus on sections 13(1) and 31(2A), the view has been taken that the application for the transfers of licenses will not be required – hence their withdrawal of the application.

However, they stress that the transaction between Telkom and BCG remains on course for completion, pending final approval from the South African Competition Tribunal.

In addition, Telkom and BCG remain in ongoing discussions with the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa, as the regulator of this industry.
