Check Point Software Technologies has recently announced that the company holds the number one vendor position in worldwide combined Firewall and UTM appliance revenue for Q1 through Q3 in 2014, according to the latest IDC Worldwide Security Appliance Tracker research data.
Data in the IDC Worldwide Security Appliance Tracker indicates:
* Check Point leads the global market in combined Firewall and UTM appliance revenue share for Q1 through Q3 in 2014.
* Check Point is the leader in combined Firewall and UTM factory revenue in both the U.S. and Western Europe combining Q1 through Q3 in 2014.
“We are extremely proud that the most recent IDC Tracker data reinforces Check Point’s continued leadership in the Firewall and UTM appliance market,” says Doros Hadjizenonos, sales manager: Check Point South Africa. “This recognition is a testament to our innovative technology and product leadership, while also emphasising our dedication to partners and customers.”
According to IDC, “Firewall security products have as their primary function general-purpose filtering of networking traffic (packet filtering, stateful inspection, or proxy). UTM security products support multiple security features integrated into one device. Required capabilities include firewall, IPS, and gateway antivirus. Products labelled ‘next-generation firewall’ that meet these qualifications are counted as UTM.”
Check Point first pioneered the industry with FireWall-1 and its patented stateful inspection technology in 1993 and today continues to be a leader in the firewall market.
The company entered the security appliance business in 2006 and expanded its enterprise hardware line with the launches of the 13800 and 21800 appliances, delivering multi-layer security protection with four pre-defined security packages: Next Generation Firewall, Threat Prevention, Data Protection and Secure Web Gateway. Offering the best security for companies of all sizes, Check Point’s 620 Appliance notably outperformed four comparable SMB appliances in the recent Network World UTM Shootout.
