Cortell Corporate Performance Management, a provider of world-class enterprise business intelligence (BI), planning and consolidation software and services, has announced a ground-breaking ETL extraction solution for users of the Universe and Unidata (U2) legacy database systems.
This will ease the challenge of extracting information from legacy Universe systems and allowing businesses to analyse and report on this information. Developed with another South African company, Pro Solutions,
the technology known as ICON ETL is now available for deployment by Cortell.
David McWilliam, director at Cortell, says the solution “opens up a number of opportunities for those companies using legacy Universe systems to better understand and manage their business”.
He adds that several hundred companies – many large enterprises – are still using Universe.
“The problem was that while the data structures inside the Universe environment are effective for transaction processing, they were not designed for today’s performance management environments,” McWilliam
explains.
“Extracting and standardising that data so it can be used by performance management and BI tools was at best very inefficient and often nearly impossible without writing bespoke programs.”
Investment Group Invicta Holdings is one of the first corporates to benefit from Cortell’s deployment of ICON ETL. With assets under management of R12-billion, and over 3 000 system users, Invicta generates huge volumes of data within its ERP system.
With ICON ETL this is now seamlessly outputted for use by BI and performance management BI tools – informing better strategic decision-making for Invicta executives.
“This innovation rounds out our set of offerings to these companies. Now, no matter what the source of the data, we are now able to build automated performance management tools that give clients the benefits of scalability, cost-efficiency, accuracy of reporting, contextualisation of data, and high levels of data security,” notes McWilliam.
