Master Data Management (MDM) has signed a distribution agreement with Datameer, providing an end-to-end big data analytics application purpose-built for Hadoop to the Southern African market.

This type of solution is essential for companies considering or embarking on big data projects and simplifies Hadoop with a single application that delivers analytic capabilities required with big data.

Importantly, the solution simplifies this process and as such, assists with the challenge of limited Hadoop skills, allowing companies to harness the benefits of this platform and leverage analytics of big data, delivering fastest time to insights into the business and its customers.

According to Gary Allemann, MD of MDM: “The lack of skilled resources for new platforms, such as Hadoop, has been restricting South African companies’ ability to fully leverage big data. Datameer shares our vision that data management must sit in the hands of the business manager and business analyst, particularly in the Southern African context where skills are in short supply.

“Datameer’s ability to simplify the data management complexities of big data made it a logical extension to our existing business.”

South Africa is slightly behind in terms of the adoption of Hadoop when compared to the US and Europe and a lack of skilled resources is a significant constraint. As the only end-to-end big data analytics application purpose-built for Hadoop, Datameer is able to minimise the complexity of Hadoop and obtain insight from raw data faster than ever.

Corporations that leverage the application will fast track their big data journey, allowing existing staff to get to value quickly.

Says Tim Miller, Datameer’s Global VP of Sales: “This is a great opportunity for Datameer as we extend our reach into more verticals and other geographical areas. Partnering with MDM will allow us to increase our span and scope more rapidly.”

Allemann adds, “Datameer is ranked as the leader for Data Discovery, further providing the local market with a solution that is highly rated and credible. This is evident with the recent GigaOM Sector Roadmap for Data Discovery, which compared criteria such as the ability to support Self Service, Data Blending and Storytelling, and presented Datameer with top honours amongst a number of better known rivals.”

The company also boasts numerous high profile successes in vertical markets such as retail, financial services, government, high tech and telecommunications including a high profile client list such as Sears, Visa, BT and Citibank.

“This partnership will allow Datameer to leverage MDMs vertical markets, extending our footprint to the Southern African region. MDM is a partner we can trust and they understand the territory. These are key factors for Datameer when selecting a partner,” adds Miller.

“Datameer and MDM make big data practical. We can assist our clients to identify appropriate use cases, build their business case, and prove the value of big data by deploying quickly (in the cloud or on site). The time for big data is now.” concludes Allemann.
