Take advantage of advanced line-interactive power protection for servers and network equipment with the new APC Smart-UPS 230V from distributor Drive Control Corporation (DCC). The feature-rich uninterrupted power supply (UPS) ensures that clean and reliable network-grade power is supplied to data and equipment. They are available in two models: standard units (SMT); and units with extended run-time options (SMX).

Both models are available in tower, rack-mount or tower/rack convertible forms with a number of form factors to fit the needs of any server room.

“The Smart-UPS 230V is based on APC’s legendary reliability and manageability, and delivers extremely high efficiency at low, medium and high-load levels, making them ideal for multi-core or virtualised servers with varying load consumptions.

“Therefore, efficiency at all consumption levels ensures the UPS is running optimal at all load levels, making them ideal to use on a variety of different equipment, from servers, routers, switches, hubs and other network devices to point of sale (POS) equipment,” says Elrica Quick, APC product manager at DCC.

The Smart-UPS 230V Tower and Rack-mount models are application optimised standard models with a number of features making them ideal for a range of applications.

Network-grade power provides the most stable possible power conditions by filtering noise, automatically regulating voltage and providing surge protection. Advanced battery management with temperature-compensated charging extends the life of the battery.

The battery disconnect feature offers convenient transport and easy battery replacement. Emergency Power Off (EPO) provides for remote UPS shut down in the event of a fire or other emergency, while High-efficiency Green Mode delivers optimum efficiency to save on electricity usage and cooling costs. The devices also offer a number of communication port options which include Serial, USB and SmartSlot for accessory cards.

The Extended Run model combines all of these standard features with the ability to accept external batteries to increase runtime. The switched outlet groups feature enables the reboot of hung devices, sheds non-critical loads to conserve runtime and sequence start up and turn off. They are available in slim form factors of 2U rack mount, or tower models with a 4U short depth convertible form for use in or out of a rack.

The Smart-UPS display, available on all models, is an intuitive easy to use LCD interface that provides clear, consistent and detailed information in either basic or advanced menus. The display enables users to get details of power status, as well as control UPS and outlet group settings, configure language, power quality settings, alarms, thresholds and so on.

Self-test and diagnostic enables users to initiate battery and runtime calibration tests, while logs provide an explanation of the past 10 transfers and faults.

“APC Smart-UPS are easy to use, reliable, intelligent, efficient and manageable, perfect for environments such as South Africa where power interruptions are experienced. Using these devices, organisations can protect their expensive equipment and data from the negative effects of unstable power and interruptions,” Quick concludes.
