Power management company Eaton has launched a new range of uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs) which gives users access to comprehensive online double-conversion power protection at an affordable price in Africa.

Models in the new 9E range combine exceptional versatility with compact yet robust construction, customised for industrial, medical and information technology(IT) applications and telecommunications in the African market. The new 9E range includes models rated at 6, 10, 15 and 20 kVA.

“Our new 9E UPSs have been developed specifically for African users who need dependable and comprehensive power protection but are constrained by tight budgets,” said Jaco du Plooy, product manager, Eaton Africa.

“The double-conversion technology used in these units offers effective protection against all nine commonly encountered types of power problems and, because their design is based on Eaton’s decades of experience being in Africa since 1937, users can be certain that the units will combine exceptional reliability with long working lives.”

Eaton’s new 9E UPSs have a power factor of 0.8, which means that they can power more equipment than most similar products with the same nominal rating. In addition, they are easy to manage, through an intuitive user interface with an LCD panel that provides, on a single screen, clear information about UPS status as well as real-time information about load level, battery charge level, input/output voltage and frequency.

To facilitate remote monitoring and management, 9E UPSs feature integrated USB and RS232 communications ports. Optional network, relay and ModBus interface cards are available to further extend the communication capabilities of the units.

Full integration with all software environments can be readily achieved using Eaton’s Intelligent Power Software, which is supplied with all 9E UPSs.

A further key benefit of the new UPSs is itsflexibility. They incorporate an internal bypass to maintain service continuity in the unlikely event of an internal fault occurring, and they also have a maintenance bypass to facilitate servicing without the need to power down critical systems.

Models rated at 10 kVA and above support 1:1 and 3:1 combo inputs, and runtime for all models can easily be extended by adding up to four external battery modules (EBMs). For applications where exceptionally long runtime is needed, XL models, which incorporate an internal supercharger, are available with ratings of 10 and 20 kVA.
