The recently launched Ericsson Radio Dot System, a disc-shaped cellular radio that is small enough to fit a person’s hand, will be showcased at Ericsson’s stand during the 2013 edition of AfricaCom, scheduled to take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre this week.
The breakthrough solution, introduces a revolutionary antenna element, or “dot,” which delivers mobile broadband access to users. Because of its convenient size, scalability, and compelling evolution path, this product caters to different kinds of users in medium to large indoor locations, and aims to address operators’ needs of offering a complete indoor solution.
Fredrick Jejdling, Head of Ericsson sub-Saharan Africa who will be delivering a keynote address at the first day of the conference says that showcasing one of Ericsson’s latest technologies at AfricaCom is in keeping with the organization’s focus for the conference which is on driving innovation, service and technology leadership.
“Africa is on the cusp of a mobile broadband revolution that will radically change how people, businesses and institutions interact with information and each other. AfricaCom provides us with the opportunity to explore solutions to a myriad of challenges that are facing regional operators, governments and the industry in general,” says Jejdling.
“The event also provides stakeholders in the industry with an invaluable opportunity to identify opportunities that will enhance the quality of life of the communities we are operating in,” added Jejdling, who will deliver a keynote address titled Business Transformation to Promote Data Access in Africa on Tuesday, 12 November.
On 13 and 14 November respectively, Ericsson’s Faraz Salahuddin will give a presentation titled “It’s time for Money to Change”, at the Mobile Money conference on Wednesday, while Hans Piet, regional Head of Mobile Broadband, will be address a master class on the subject Managing Opex and Capex when Upgrading Mobile Networks.
The Ericsson Radio Dot System will be the centrepiece of a number of innovative demos that will run at Ericsson’s drumbeat-themed exhibition located at stand D8 in the main hall.
