Huawei has been rated as a top supplier for software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualisation (NFV) solutions for the second consecutive year by leading telecoms operators, according to a 2014 survey conducted by analyst firm Current Analysis.

With feedback from 100 senior executives across more than 80 telecoms network operators from around the world, the “SDN and NFV: Evolving Deployment Requirements and How to Benefit” survey focused on SDN and NFV market evolutions, buying preferences, vendor capabilities and positioning.

Huawei once again achieved good results in multiple categories:

* Vendor perception – Huawei ranked first in vendor perception across tier-one telecoms operators (larger than $50-billion) globally;

* Buying preferences – Huawei was chosen as the top vendor in which telecoms operators globally (76%) and in Europe (88%) are most likely to purchase SDN/NFV solutions from; it was also the second most preferred SDN/NFV supplier in the North American market; Huawei is rated as the top supplier which integrated operators (77%) and fixed-line/multi-service operators (80%) will most likely purchase SDN/NFV solutions from; and 78% of network planning decision-makers chose Huawei as the top supplier in which they are most likely to purchase SDN/NFV solutions from.

“The telecoms industry is moving quickly along the SDN and NFV adoption cycle, with carriers shifting their focus from cost reduction to revenue generation,” says Jason Marcheck, service director: Service Provider Infrastructure at Current Analysis. “With more use cases becoming available and more clearly defined ROI becoming critical to spurring deployments, we foresee 2015 being a crucial time in getting these technologies deployed. Accordingly, service providers are going to be looking to highly rated vendors, such as Huawei, to help guide them through what will certainly be a complex adoption and deployment process.”

“Huawei has been actively promoting the commercialization of SDN/NFV since the introduction of the SoftCOM strategy in 2012. To date, we have partnered with over 20 telcos to conduct more than 60 joint SDN/NFV innovation projects worldwide, and several commercial deployments were successfully completed in 2014,” says Ken Wang, president of Global Marketing and Solution Sales at Huawei. “We highly appreciate the trust and recognition of our capabilities that the operators have granted us and we stay committed to working as a long-term strategic partner for our customers, helping them enhance network performance and realize business transformation towards ICT convergence via deployments of industry-leading SDN/NFV solutions.”
