The US National Security Agency believes that the US’ cyber-attacks against Iran may have helped to raise Iran’s cyber-warfare capability.
A report from “The Intercept” cites a secret document from the National Security Agency that warns of Iran studying and replicating US cyber-attack tactics.
The document states that an attack by Iran against Saudi Aramco in August 2012, which destroyed data on tens of thousands of computers, could have been just the first. “Iran, having been a victim of a similar cyber-attack against its own oil industry in April 2012, has demonstrated a clear ability to learn from the capabilities and actions of others,” according to the NSA document.
It adds that Iran has become a formidable cyber-force by learning from the viruses injected into its own system by the US and Israel, among others.
The NSA document was supplied to The Intercept by whistle-blower Edward Snowden.
