To follow on from the last successful mapIT Developers Day held in Johannesburg, South Africa in October 2012, mapIT is looking at expanding their service offering across Africa and will be hosting their first Developer’s Day in Nairobi, Kenya on the 25 March 2013. The event will be hosted in association with mapIT’s Kenyan partner, Integrat – a leading mobile aggregation services provider.
The development session will showcase the latest features available on the deCarta location-based services (LBS) platform covering both Web and mobile applications.
The focus will be on deCarta’s newest version of its JavaScript application programming interface (API) which is built on top of the industry’s leading independent high-volume LBS platform. With more than eight million kilometres of road and two million points of interest across Africa the developers are ensured of getting access to the best possible data/platform in Africa.
Leveraging on cutting-edge HTML5 technologies, developers will learn how to “write once and deploy everywhere”.
The cross-platform APIs will allow for building applications that run seamlessly on tablets, smartphones and desktop devices. deCarta’s platform supports some of the largest LBS services in the world and is available as a cloud based service or as a self-hosted solution.
With free access to the mapIT and deCarta’s API services during the development phase of an application, users of the LBS platform will have access to; mapIT’s support team and 24/7 bespoke DevZone portal, quality mapping data built on TomTom maps, and full control over individual content.
They will also be able to control the look and feel of the map experience, the flexible user interface (UI) library which is highly customisable and allows users to design applications that reflect their individual visual style of choice and brand through five different map styles.
Fleet and mobile resource management specific features will be covered including pin clustering, draggable shapes, customisable polygons, exclusion zones, geo-fencing and highly configurable routing.
“Whether a developer needs or is currently utilising Web or mobile location based services applications, this is the preferred technology platform which will enable the user to easily white label any application across Africa,” says Etienne Louw, MD mapIT.
The event will be held at the Fairview Hotel, Upper Hill, Nairobi, Kenya at a cost of $100 which includes lunch.
Delegates will also be entered into a competition for the best application developed on the latest APIs.
Delegates are requested to bring their laptops as this will be an interactive, full day workshop and attendees will be given a USB with a license key on it to access the deCarta platform.
The best two applications developed will each win a TomTom personal navigation device with map data for East Africa sponsored by TomTom Africa. Other prizes will also be announced on the day.
