The Mziiki African-music streaming app has been nominated in the category of Best App for Africa at AfricaCom, Africa’s premier communications congress and exhibition. The digital industry’s most anticipated Awards event that recognises innovation and relevance to market needs will take place on 12th November at The Waterfront Lookout, Cape Town.
The Awards celebrate and acknowledge leaders in digital technology, ICT, telecommunications and media across Africa, and attract a growing number of entries each year with 2014 receiving 161 entries.
Mziiki is a product of Spice VAS Africa. It is a music streaming application and mobile site that offers the most diverse and largest collection of African music; it was launched earlier this year and has been rapidly gaining traction. The mix of international artists and hundreds of exclusively licensed African artists, a rapidly growing subscriber base and the delivery of digital music on demand is inspiring users to search, discover and connect with African artists and cultures.
Users can access the app on a variety of mobile platforms – namely iOS, Android and BlackBerry devices – and also stream from the mobile site. The app has capability to allow full track downloads and set ringback tones. It is easy to use, allows for social sharing and Dedications and the service is completely free (although data charges do apply).
Mziiki is in good company as Spice VAS Africa was a winner in 2013 with the app MOD 360 winning the award for Best Digital Music Initiative.
