Many South Africans spent yesterday evening in the dark as unexpected load shedding hit the country.
The rolling blackouts were implemented as the country’s electricity supply came under extreme pressure following the collapse of a coal silo at the Majuba power station in Mpumalanga.
Residents of Johannesburg’s northern suburbs were still in the dark this morning as their lights came on just briefly last night, only to go off again – and stay off.
A call to the City Power contact centre yields a long list is suburbs still experiencing power outages, but no explanation as to what the problem is, or when residents can expect power to be restored.
