The Olympic torch that will be used to open the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, has completed a sojourn in space and this morning landed back on Earth.

The torch arrived at the International Space Station (ISS) on Thursday aboard a Soyuz spacecraft and was carried on a spacewalk outside the ISS on Saturday by Russian cosmonauts Oleg Kotov and Sergey Ryazanski.

It was returned to Earth this morning by three crew members completing a 70,3-million mile mission spanning more than 2 600 orbits of the Earth since their launch to the ISS in May.
