Thousands of South Africans came together to attempt a new Guinness World Record for the most contributions to an online album of self-portrait photographs (selfies) in 24 hours – and, with more than 12 000 South Africans coming to the party, it may have achieved its goal.
Samsung Electronics’ attempt, in partnership with 947 FM and KFM, yielded 12 803 selfies taken at various activation points around the country. This figure is still to be verified by Guinness World Record and, once confirmed, Samsung will receive a certificate to validate the title.
“We are thrilled to have successfully managed to get so many people to be a part of this record-breaking attempt,” says Justin Hume, director of product marketing: Integrated Mobility at Samsung Electronics SA.
“Not only was it an exciting day with so many people participating, but it also gave us a great platform through which we were able to engage with our consumers in a unique way that showcased some of the innovative features of the Galaxy A-Series range.”
The record was aimed to highlight the South African launch of Samsung’s new range of smartphones, the Galaxy A-Series.
