Spy Cables: what caused the leak?
It’s still unclear exactly how the so-called Spy Cables were leaked from South Africa’s State Security Agency, but it appears that centralisation of data sources, as well as poor process control, could have contributed to their exposure.
Al Jazeera, which is publishing the leaked documents over the next weeks, reports that a security assessment in 2009 concluded that the country’s secrets were at serious risk and would remain so for the long-term – a prognosis that would seem to have been borne out by the current leaks.
MTN demos video-on-demand offering
FrontRow’s capabilities on MTN’s new generation network were demonstrated at a media briefing held at the MTN head offices in Fairlands, Johannesburg. MTN has launched its subscription-based video-on-demand (VOD) service last year for the launch price of R179 or R399 a month inclusive of a 10Gb data bundle for streaming and viewing. FrontRow gives all customers, regardless of which network they subscribe to, access to thousands of movies and their favourite television series on up to five different devices, one device at a time.
