Telkom, BCX withdraw ICASA application
Telkom and Business Connexion (BCX) have withdrawn their application to the Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA) for licences to be transferred from BCX to Telkom. In a joint statement, the two organisations state that, having reviewed the Electronic Communication Act, with particular focus on sections 13(1) and 31(2A), the view has been taken that the application for the transfers of licenses will not be required – hence their withdrawal of the application.
First decline seen in tablet sales
Worldwide tablet shipments recorded a year-over-year decline for the first time since the market’s inception in 2010. Overall shipments for tablets and 2-in-1 devices reached 76,1-million in the fourth quarter of 2014 (4Q14) for -3,2% growth, according to preliminary data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Tablet Tracker.
Bytes acquisition given the go-ahead
The Competition Tribunal has approved Bytes People Solutions’ acquisition of the business of Inter-Active Technologies. The agreement, as approved by the Commission, will be effective from 3 March 2015.
