At least 6,8-million South Africans moved in and out of the country’s borders last year.
This is one of the findings that TomTom Southern Africa made when analysing data from Statistics South Africa on the movements by road through the borders of South Africa.
Of the 37-million total travellers that crossed in and out of the South African borders by air, land and sea, 27-million of these passed through by road. And 24% (6,8-million) of these people were South African citizens while 76% were foreign travellers.
“TomTom work on mapping every road through Africa by physically sending a team up into these areas to track and record data which is analysed and the built into our maps. This process ensures users are guaranteed the best maps and most accurate data when using TomTom products,” says Daan Henderickx, country manager of TomTom Southern Africa.
“Understanding the need for mapping improvements required in many areas throughout Africa, coupled with the data that showcases movement through our local borders, TomTom responded by offering full African coverage on the new TomTom GO Series devices. Now TomTom GO Series users can go as far into Africa as they wish with the peace of mind that they will be able to find their way with ease,” Henderickx adds.
