Verifone recently appointed Craig Rankin as the new GM and MD for its South Africa business.

Verifone is the leader in providing trusted, secure and innovative payment terminals, global payment as a service, and commerce enablement solutions.

Rankin is the former GM for Banking at Telesure Investment Holdings, where he was responsible for establishing Telesure’s independent payments business, dashpay. Prior to Telesure, Rankin was the MD of Bluebean, a division of Standard Bank and later became Director: Card Acquiring, responsible for the bank’s card acquiring portfolio.

Before his tenure with Standard Bank, Rankin was General Manager of Card Product for Nedbank, where he was responsible for the bank’s issuing and acquiring portfolios.

He replaces Llewellyn Walters, founder and CEO of South African electronic payments company CSC, which was acquired by VeriFone in 2011. Walters will serve as a management consultant for Verifone in South Africa and as a non-executive director on the company’s board in the region.

“Craig’s extensive experience in the card and payments arena, as well as his strong banking background, will contribute significantly to Verifone’s continuous evolution and growth in its three core business areas — Terminal Solutions, Payment as a Service and Commerce Enablement,” says Bulent Ozayaz, president of Southern Europe, Russia, Middle East and Africa (SERMEA) for Verifone.

“Together with Grant Manicom, who has focused on finance and more recently operations, Craig enhances our winning team and its ability to continue growing our business in South Africa.”

“I am tremendously excited and motivated at the opportunity to build on the success already achieved by Verifone in Southern Africa under the leadership of Llewellyn Walters,” said Rankin. “I look forward to developing and bolstering strong partnerships with our many clients across the region and working with them to grow and support their businesses in the dynamic world of payments and commerce.”

“Craig has the experience and industry knowledge needed to further grow Verifone in Southern Africa,” said Walters. “I look forward to being involved locally and with international initiatives within the broader SERMEA region.”
